PIECES PROJECT

Guinness World Record breaking graphic novels.

Pieces is an innovative, experimental art project recognised by the Guinness World Records.
Initiated in 2006 by Jakub Mazerant, the founder of IllustrateYourLife, the project has partnered with 249 artists from 39 countries.
Pieces offers an unparalleled platform for artists to collaborate creatively, uniting a diverse range of talents including comic creators, illustrators, graphic designers, animators, painters, street artists, sculptors, and printmakers. For many, it served as a first opportunity to express themselves through comic art. Each artist contributed one "piece," a comic book panel, and decided the direction of the story's development.

  • The Pieces Project was initiated with the creation of a single panel, or "piece," featuring a group of characters in a specific setting. The original scenario was merely a starting point, with subsequent panels being passed on to different artists involved in the project. Each artist would consider the previous panel and use their unique style to continue the story. This allowed for individual contributions to the overall work, including the addition of new characters, changes in pacing, and alterations to the tone of the narrative. As the story progressed, the characters and story could evolve in unexpected ways, ranging from humorous to somber or even terrifying. The outcome of the project was entirely dependent on the creative input of all participants, culminating in a diverse and unpredictable graphic story that took on a life of its own. The artist who received the final panel would have the opportunity to bring the story to a conclusion, resulting in a truly collaborative work of art.

  • Within the Pieces Project, some of the panels, or "pieces," showcase highly original and inventive forms and styles. The techniques employed by participating artists are diverse and include the use of Augmented Reality, photography, 3D rendering, stitching, sculpting, painting, and even building with LEGO blocks. The incorporation of these techniques adds another layer of creativity and innovation to the project.

  • The Pieces Project has received recognition and praise from some of the most legendary artists in the world of comic art. Esteemed figures such as Andreas, KAS, Grzegorz Rosiński, Bogusław Polch, H.R. Giger, and Robert Crumb have acknowledged the project's exceptional creativity and unique approach to collaboration.

  • The Pieces Project has been showcased at various exhibitions throughout Australia and Europe. These exhibitions allowed audiences to experience the collaborative work of artists from around the world, highlighting the project's diverse range of styles, techniques, and storytelling.
